Lyrics
Edited by Michael Bussewitz-Quarm and Ira Paul Costell
Based on the poem “Pay the Ferryman for David Aaron” by Ira Paul Costell
Born of water,
         returned unto the sea.
Loving souls gather at the edge
     of foam-green wetness;
 windswept tears of sorrow,
suspended between the setting sun and the newly minted moon,
existing as if in neither day nor night.
Born of water, returned unto the sea.
Born of water,
       tossed about by the sea;
braving the chilling tide with purpose and dignity.
We push on through the strong current
    of this unexpected journey.
Come back to us.
Come back to us!
Born of water,
       tossed about by the sea.
Refrain:
David Aaron, David Aaron,
we lift up our voices together in faith and in love.
David Aaron, David Aaron,
the message is hope and the promise is freedom!
Born of water,
        cast back unto the sea.
grasped in hopeful hands, bound by our collective spirit.
Voices are lifted in song as we seek meaning in measured words
We won’t be lost.
We won’t be lost.
We sing for strength and hope for freedom.
David Aaron, we remember you.
Lift our spirits, windswept tears of sorrow once shed
Laughter and mem’ries of lessons of love and compassion.
His light forever guides us, existing both in day and darkest night.
Born of water, and returned unto the sea.
Refrain:
David Aaron, David Aaron,
we lift up our voices together in faith and in love.
David Aaron, David Aaron,
the message is hope and the promise is freedom!
Honor Page (Optional):

Refrain:
we lift up our voices together in faith and in love.
the message is hope and the promise is freedom!
